The Short Version
Tailwynd has no account, no sign-up, no advertising, no analytics of its own, and no servers of ours holding your data. Your trips, routes, and battery entries stay on your phone. When the app fetches weather, elevation, alerts, or charging-station information, the requests carry route coordinates only — never your name, your identity, or an identifier that tracks you. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal data, because none of it ever reaches us.
Location
Tailwynd uses your location for exactly two things: planning (using your current position as the starting point of a route and showing you on the map) and following your progress during a drive so the live trip card can update its estimates — this includes background location while a drive you started is in progress, and it stops when you arrive or end the trip. You can also plan any route without location access at all by typing a start address. Location history from your drives (the recorded trip trace described below) is stored only on your device.
Trips You Record
When you drive with the live trip card, Tailwynd records the drive on your phone: position and speed samples, the weather the forecast claimed along the way, and the battery levels you chose to enter. These trip records exist to show you post-trip reports and to calibrate future predictions to your car. They are stored only on your device, are never uploaded to us or anyone else, and are yours to share only if you choose to (for example, by exporting a trip report).
Battery Levels You Enter
The charge percentages you type in, and the battery capacity you set for your vehicle, are stored on your device and used solely to compute arrival estimates, charger reachability, and post-trip comparisons. Tailwynd does not connect to your car or to any vehicle manufacturer account.
Weather, Elevation, and Alert Services
To analyze a route, Tailwynd sends the coordinates of points along it to weather services: Open-Meteo (forecasts, historical weather, and terrain elevation) and the U.S. National Weather Service (official severe-weather alerts). These requests contain coordinates and nothing else about you; no account or API key ties them to your identity. Charging-station lookups likewise send only the map area being searched.
Apple Maps
Routing, address search, and the Apple Maps hand-off are provided by Apple's MapKit on your device and are governed by Apple's privacy policy. Tailwynd does not receive or store your search history beyond the recent addresses kept on your phone for your own convenience, which you can clear at any time by deleting the app's data.
Analytics and Diagnostics
Tailwynd contains no analytics or tracking code. Apple may provide developers with anonymous, aggregated crash reports and App Store statistics if you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with developers in your device settings. This information does not personally identify you.
Children's Privacy
Tailwynd does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time — for example, if a future version adds an optional connected-car feature, this page will describe exactly what it shares before you can turn it on. Updates will be posted here with a revised date.
